Beautiful Eureka Springs

We got up around 6.45 AM this morning and the temperature was 54 Fahrenheit... Pretty chilly.... We headed towards Fort Smith which meant that we crossed the Arkansas border from Oklahoma. I have to say that we reached nirvana today. 68 Fahrenheit today, clean blue sky and beautiful Arkansas mountains. There is nothing that replaces the feeling of freedom. We are staying at Quality Inn in Eureka Springs and unbelievably run into a Honda Goldwing rally with 81 participants. That was a lot of Goldwings. Now we are headed towards the mainstreet in a limo to see how the Eureka Springs rock!

Ask your hotel for directions to these top restaurants: Oasis (funky/hippie/ "Ark-Mex" food, a favorite of downtown locals); Gaskin's Cabin (for steak) five miles north of town on Route 23, $25-30 pp; Ermillio's Italian on the upper historic loop; Local Flavor on Main Street downtown or Mud Street Cafe, also downtown.

Many tourists miss North Spring Street shops because they turn around too soon. Wander up Springs St. all the way to the post office, hang a right. You'll encounter Gourmet Eureka. Across the street you'll see Rogue's Manner restaurant (fine dining; expensive) and then Regalia (hand-made clothes for women). You'll also pass by some antique shops, more galleries and more of our Springs and gardens and eventually find yourself at the Carnegie Library--all of which are well worth the walk.

For antiques, collectibles and home decorating items, check out Mountain Eclectic on N. Main, another shop often missed by visitors. For art-glass jewelry and decorative art-glass objects, check out Fusion, 84 Spring St., one of our newer shops.

Also, on a fine day like this, take a guided historic trolly tour of the historic loop to see lovely Victorian homes and learn about the history of the town. Trollys depart from the Visitors' Center on Route 62.

Spend some time in Basin Spring Park downtown people watching. There may be live music there this week.

Hope you enjoy your visit.

Enjoy your visit.

Thanks Michael,

I am really a fan of Arkansas. We arrived back to Dallas this afternoon and after 1100 miles on our bikes. Thanks for giving additional good links and references. I will pass them to my friends and other motorcycle enthusiasts that I know. We will definetely visit Eureka Springs again!
